Smith University, a small, private, Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and sports tech company ShotTracker, is shaping a win-win approach through Data Science + Sports.

Dr. Felesia Stukes is an emerging leader in higher education and an assistant professor of computer science at Johnson C. Smith University. Dr. Stukes pairs resourcefulness with innovative thinking to create greater opportunities in computing for women and communities of color. Her research is focused on Computer Science (CS) education to find more effective approaches to bring computer science to a wider and more diverse audience. Her recent project was funded by the Department of Defense and titled, “Data Science Education and Sport: Equipping the DATA Bulls”. It was designed to increase participation in computing through data science education and research through sport.

Davyeon Ross is the Co-Founder and President of ShotTracker, a revolutionary sensor-based technology that provides basketball players, coaches, teams and fans with real-time statistics and analytics in practice and live games. Davyeon earned his MBA at MidAmerica Nazarene University and holds a Computer Science BSC with minors in Mathematics and Business Administration from Benedictine College, Kansas. Davyeon has founded and built tech companies, raising more than $40 million in capital, and then successfully taking his innovative ideas from development to market launch and profitably.
